“Yes, the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival’s (MMFF) ‘Reelvolution’ is pushing through,”
clarified Stephanie Henares, marketing manager of SM Lifestyle and Entertainment Inc. “They will have their MMFF corner at SM malls soon and they will be announcing the official entries this month.”
In revamping its original concept, the 2016 MMFF received 60-plus entries. Yes, the original plans are pushing through despite the change of MMDA chairmanship from Emerson Carlos to Tomas Orbos in an acting capacity.
While majority of submissions are indie films, the established film production companies are also present, but some are keeping mum about their submissions for fear they will not be picked.
Vice Ganda and Coco Martin have an entry under Star Cinema with the working title of Sampung Gamol. Vic Sotto and Ai Ai de las Alas under M-Zet are also in partnership with other film production companies for a film entry. The producer of a sequel of a blockbuster indie film starring an award-winning actress is not publicizing their participation until it is selected as an official entry.
But other entries are more daring. Vhong Navarro’s remake of the iconic Chiquito character, Mang Kepweng, in Mang Kepweng Returns, is also from Star Cinema. There is Anne Curtis’ action movie, Buy Bust, as helmed by Erik Matti. Reel-life pastors Philip Salvador and Gina Alajar will field Pastor as directed by Adolf Alix Jr.

REVEAL ITEM. The buzz that T.A.P.E owner Romy Jalosjos (yes, he still owns it) is the reason Kris Aquino could not join his entertainment production company is reliable. Why? Her brother, former President Noynoy Aquino, turned down his request for a favor when he was still Philippine president. Well, there’s no appeal in such a case. Kris knows this, accounting for her crying blues and swallowing her pride to sound off to ABS-CBN that she is available.
But Kris is not one who will easily accept defeat. Like a true Aquino, she is known to find her way out of a predicament. She went to dear friend Manny Pangilinan and enticed the TV5 owner with an exclusive interview, that of President Rody Duterte, who agreed, as long as the interview would be aired on TV4. This is scheduled for November 11 at 4:30 p.m.
