Family business coaching occurs when families are in complex business relationships that provide intriguing interactions with agendas and “sub-texts.” There is both power and money involved, the agendas become larger and more emotional and often more devastating, describes Prof. Enrique “Eric” Soriano, who is a global family business coach, at the launch of his books, Ensuring Family Business Legacy and The Kite Runner Columns.
Prof. Soriano continues, “Egos get involved and emotions such as anger and then resentment or depression and sadness set in and start to destroy families that once communicated and interacted well and that once loved and cared for each other. The result is devastation, hurt and chaos. Sometimes, the damage is irretrievable. Sometimes, the relationships deteriorate to such an extent that family members do not talk to each other and have nothing to do with each other. And the pain never goes away.”
The job of the family business coach is to untangle and resolve their complexities by coaching and training them for as much as US$12,000 per day. In the case of Prof. Soriano, he uses scientific techniques that he has refined from experience and in consultation with other global Family Business coaches.
Conferred a National Agora Award for Excellence in Marketing Education in 2013, Prof. Soriano is  also a professor of Global Marketing and Program Director for Real Estate of the Ateneo Graduate School of Business (AGSB).
