OPENING TODAY. New Generation Heroes, an Aiko Melendrez, Jao Mapa, Joyce Penas and Anita Linda starrer, had a well-attended premiere at Cinema 8 of SM Megamall. It was graced by Aiko’s children Andrei Yllana and Marthena Jickain. Due to her advanced age, however, Anita was unable to attend.
A teacher by professional training, Joyce was able to portray her role — a teacher who trades with co-teachers and students out of her official duty — with convincing power. Being her first starrer, this is impressive as she has little experience in acting. Joyce keeps the film on track; in fact, she holds it together. Her dedication as actress and producer is incomparable.
New Generation Heroes screens in selected SM cinemas particularly in Megamall, Mall of Asia, SM Manila, Sta. Mesa, Fairview, Marikina, Southmall, Bacoor, Pampanga, Clark, Cabanatuan, Cebu, Iloilo and Davao.
The film is classified Parental Guidance, and all mentors are entitled to a 30 percent ticket price discount upon presentation of their Professional Regulation Commission identification cards.
MARENG WINNIE, MASTER OF REAL TALK. When Mareng Winnie Monsod talks on television, her arguments are solid, existing or occurring as fact; actual rather than imaginary, ideal or fictitious. Being an actual thing, having objective existence and not imaginary, the discussions are real and not just made up. It is of a substance, not imitation or artificial, therefore genuine, authentic and bona fide.
Mareng Winnie Monsod proved anew that she is the Master of Real Talk when she interviewed North Luzon Railways Corporation (NLRC) chairman Francisco “Isko Moreno” Dumagoso in Bawal Ang Pasaway on Monday over GMA News TV at 10:15 p.m. Without pretentious discourse or social climbing, the feisty Mareng Winnie was able to bring out the crux of issues involving Chair Isko and the kind of government administrator he is, no-holds-barred.
Most Filipinos want to know what has become of Isko since he graciously passed off running for the position of mayor of Manila, lost his senatorial bid by a margin, solicited a position in President Rodrigo Duterte’s government last July and delivered major results in a matter of two months. We hope the lead he has initiated will not be stalled by his appointment and bureaucracy.
He solved the NLRC mess with a win-win solution by giving up the questionable deal without the government paying more money. He also converted it into a 20-kilometer tram to be delivered on December 2020 “without corruption” as he admirably put it.
Mareng Winnie seemed to trust him, not doubting his answers. Her credibility so high, it is a measure of the women and men of GMA Network News and Current Affairs. In short, she is believable in comparison to other talk show hosts despite the emotional content.
NOTES ON THE STAR MAGIC BALL.
1. Winners of the Star Magic Ball 2017, usually selected based on star and wear quotients are:
Best Dressed Award: Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach/Kisses Delavin and Marco Gallo
Belle of the Ball: Julia Barretto
Brightest Star of the Night: Kathryn Bernardo/Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil
Couple of the Night: Jessy Mendiola and Luis Manzano
2. Bea Alonzo attended with Gerald Anderson, Kim Chiu with Xian Lim.
3. If the likes of Anne Curtis, Sarah Geronimo, Nadine Lustre and James Reid did not attend, it is simply because they are not Star Magic artists and their business managers, Viva, decided not to let them join a non-income-generating event.
4. If Megastar Sharon Cuneta did not get an early invitation, that is because she has been attending either as an ABS-CBN or non-ABS-CBN star. She finally decided not to attend as she has no new formal wear.
5. GMA Network artists Heart Evangelista, Kristine Hermosa, Megan Young and Janine Gutierrez attended with respective romantic partners Sen. Criz Escudero, Oyo Boy Sotto, Mikael Daez and Rayver Cruz.
6. Lawyer Joji Alonso posted on Facebook her photo with her hand on Mr. M’s shoulder: “5 years of Star Magic would not have been possible without this selfless man, Johnny Manahan, a fitting tribute was finally bestowed upon him last night during the Star Magic Ball, deeply honored to be among your trusted allies Mr. M.”
7. John Lloyd Cruz came fashionably late and solo wearing sunglasses and stole a moment from Gerald Anderson by hugging perennial screen partner Bea Alonzo.
8. No diamonds for Enrique Gil this year, but Liza Soberano wore a diamond-studded bracelet.
9. Daniel Padilla was the perfect escort to Kathryn Bernardo by making sure her flowing skirt was positioned properly on the red carpet.
10. DJ Chacha had the biggest no-care bare arms.

FACEBOOK CORRECT! Facebook is irrational. It just punishes erring members with account suspension without informing them of rule infraction and for how long such punishment will be in effect. These deprive members of information to determine, avoid and self-correct.
This is a long-standing issue with Facebook, which keeps repeating itself and causing dissatisfaction among members. They allege that it fakes statistics, tolerates fake content that results in the gross misuse of social media.
And this is a simple issue to correct. This also does not help encourage paid advertisements as they only result in limited awareness and not the much-desired hard sales. Why Facebook continues to do this is beyond understanding as it is for its own benefit.
